Past events (2007)

September 9, 2007 - The doors for the Museum’s boxcar, CP 401222,  got its final coat of paint today.  The Museum would like to thank Kevin Rawn for his time spent painting the doors.  The final step now for these cars is to have the stenciling applied.

[Below] These two models represent what the Museum’s boxcars will ultimately look like when all the work is completed.  What is interesting to note is that Trains Canada, the maker of these two models, makes an exact model of one of the Museum’s boxcars. The CP 401222 is owned by the Museum and, as you can see from the photo (below right), this was the original livery of this car.

The Museum’s CP 403584 will be stenciled to look like the grain boxcar below and will be re-numbered to its original number of CP 252797.

August 17, 2007 - Mr. Millis donated his ex CP Woodings CBL speeder to the Museum.  This machine is in immaculate condition and the Museum would like to thank Glenn for this generous donation.  This piece of equipment will be put to work hauling visitors to the museum up and down our track.

July / August 2007 - With the use of the Museums tractor, the task of rehabilitating the Museum’s property began.  After years of neglect, it took the whole summer to cut down the grass, pull out a forest of dead trees and remove garbage that had built up over the years.  Even old pieces of railway track and cars was found hiding in the grass.

July 6, 2007 - Two of the Museum’s boxcars, CP 403584 and CP 401222 were painted today.  The Museum would like to thank the Optimum Wellness Centres for its generous donation that made this project possible. Click on a thumbnail for more photo's.

July 5, 2007 - In preparation of the Museum’s cars being painted, the cars were separated using the Museum’s tractor.

June 10, 2007 - After a year of taking apart track, after work and on their day’s off, the track gang finished at Century Park.  The next step for the museum is to move all the rail to Beiseker.

June 9, 2007 - The Museum once again participated in the parade for the Annual  Beiseker Country Fair.  This year the Museum’s float won 3rd place in the    Decorated Floats Division.

[Right] Part of the attraction for the kids at the parade is the candy tossed to them from all the floats.  If you look above Ian’s head, you can see one piece of candy coming at our photographer.     He missed….

May 1, 2007 - CP delivered the balance of the Museum's equipment to CN so it could also be forwarded to the Museum’s storage site. With this delivery came the Museum’s other newest piece of equipment,  ex-CPR crane #414480 and its idler car.  The crane has a lifting capacity of 200 tons and is still fully operational.  There will be more details and pictures of this piece of equipment soon.

The Society suffered a setback during this move.  While enroute the crane developed a bearing failure on one of the axels.  It was set off into a backtrack with the rest of the equipment while the Museum came up with a plan to get it fixed.

[Bottom] The train was walked to the next set off point so there would not be a complete bearing failure.  A few liters of motor oil were poured in so that the crane could make it. Here the crew is setting off the Museum’s equipment.

April, 2007 - With the use of casino funds, the Society purchased a John Deere tractor, 72” mowing deck and a loader, with forks, for use around the property to assist with ongoing maintenance and construction.  With this purchase the Society is now able to maintain the full 18 acres of the property.  The Society would like to thank the Village of Beiseker for all the past help we have received in this regard.

March 20, 2007 - CP delivered the majority of the Museum’s equipment to CN for delivery to a new storage location the Museum has acquired.  In this delivery of equipment was also a new acquisition for the Society, CP51, a baggage car that the railway converted to a safety instruction car in 1990.

[Below] The conductor of the CN train is getting ready to set off the Museum’s equipment at the new storage site.
